Task Summary Tips. With USC’s first-year application deadline for merit scholarship consideration coming up on December 1st, numerous students are putting the finishing touches on the application. The typical Application provides a part for students to go over their principal extracurricular, volunteer, and work activities. As admission counselors we know that each and every student is going to spend their time outside the classroom pursuing activities that are different so we thought it was important to share with you some recommendations and misconceptions regarding this an element of the application.

Tip: Focus in the activities which are the main to you. We’re most thinking about what has influenced you and your life, be it taking care of your younger siblings after college, submitting poetry to be published, or playing on your school’s soccer team.

Misconception: ‘Applicants require to have a certain quantity of community solution hours to be competitive into the college admission process.’

The facts is it’s ok if community service plays a role that is huge your life or perhaps a minor one. We’re not dedicated to making sure candidates meet a certain list of kinds of involvements. At the end of the time, we’re many interested for the reason that you are pursuing your interests and interests in some capacity.

Suggestion: give an explanation for organizations with which you’ve been involved! Although some acronyms are widely understood, such as ASB for Associated Student Body, we may not be knowledgeable about every nickname. Never assume that the social individuals reading your application are familiar with every activity offered at your college or in your community.

Misconception: ‘Colleges are just interested in knowing that students keep busy. If you join lots of companies, you’re set.’

We hope to see applicants who have dedicated themselves to a few activities that interest them, rather than a washing listing of lots of involvements. It’s not important just how organizations that are many join, but that which you did as a member or leader in that organization

Tip: While we are looking for students that are well-rounded and will contribute to our campus, we realize that students are going to have varying amounts of time for you to dedicate to various things. Students have a lot on their plate: challenging courses, household responsibilities, trying to maintain a balanced life and hopefully have a blast at the time that is same! Make sure you and your interests come through in the application so that people can better understand what experiences have had an affect you and played a role in your lifetime.
